State Power Investment Corporation puts 5 virtual power plants into operation

As of February 18, the National Energy Investment Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "National Energy Group") has successively completed and put into operation virtual power plants in five provinces and regions: Hubei, Guangdong, Ningxia, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang. The total aggregated resources amount to 605.31 megawatts, with an increase of 159.76 megawatts in flexible regulation capacity. The National Energy Group is accelerating its efforts in the new track of virtual power plants.

On October 30, 2024, the Hubei company's virtual power plant went online and started operation, marking the first virtual power plant of the National Energy Group to be put into commercial operation. This project aggregates 265.11 megawatts of resources, with a flexible regulation capacity of 25 megawatts. On December 10, the Guangdong integrated energy virtual power plant control platform successfully connected to the Shenzhen virtual power plant management center. This project aims to build a control platform for optimizing the scheduling of distributed energy resources in Shenzhen, while aggregating a batch of adjustable load user resources to maximize the adjustable capacity of various resources at different time scales. On December 23, the Ningxia company's virtual power plant was officially put into operation after successfully passing the announcement of the Ningxia Power Trading Center. In the future, this virtual power plant will cooperate with the Group's Zhongwei computing center to explore the "electricity + computing power" joint operation model, opening up new development paths with new productivity. On December 28, the Jiangxi company's virtual power plant platform officially entered the online testing phase. This project aggregates a total of 57 megawatts of resources, of which 4 megawatts are flexibly adjustable. On December 30, the Zhejiang company's virtual power plant was put into trial operation and has the capability to connect to the Zhejiang Provincial New Power Load Management System.

Currently, the National Energy Group is organizing the preparation of technical routes and standards for virtual power plants, zero-carbon smart parks, green computing power, and incremental distribution networks, etc., load-side adjustable resources. This aims to promote the construction of more virtual power plants and effectively improve the flexible regulation capacity and operational stability of the new power system.
