Jiquan DC power transmission capacity increased to 11 million kW

State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Company announced that, starting August 1st, the Changji-Guquan ±1100 kV ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) power transmission project's power transmission capacity has been increased to 11 million kW, with a daily power transmission exceeding 200 million kWh. The power transmission capacity of the Jiquan UHVDC project reached 11 million kW 15 days earlier than last year.

The Jiquan UHVDC project is currently the world's highest voltage level, largest transmission capacity, and longest distance UHVDC transmission project in operation. In 2022, the project's power transmission capacity was increased to 11 million kW for the first time, with a maximum daily power transmission of 243.6 million kWh, setting a record for the world's UHVDC transmission projects.

Since the beginning of summer this year, Xinjiang and East China have experienced continuous high temperatures, leading to a significant increase in electricity consumption. State Grid Corporation of China adhered to the national "one-盤棋" (unified strategy) principle, playing a role in resource allocation through the large power grid. This year, the company has twice increased the outbound load of the Jiquan UHVDC project, bundling and transporting Xinjiang's abundant coal-fired and wind power resources to alleviate the tight electricity supply situation in East China.

Yin Hongxia, Party Secretary of the Changji Converter Station of the ±1100 kV project, stated that as the national power grid enters the peak summer period, the ±1100 kV Changji Converter Station has gradually increased its transmission capacity. At 7 PM on June 3rd, the Jiquan UHVDC project's transmission capacity increased from the daily low of 6 million kW to 10 million kW. This was the first increase in transmission capacity this year for the Jiquan UHVDC project. On August 1st, the Jiquan UHVDC project's transmission capacity increased to 11 million kW, further ensuring electricity supply in East China.

As of 0:00 on August 6th, the Jiquan UHVDC project has cumulatively transmitted 287.247 billion kWh of electricity, with a year-to-date transmission of 38.789 billion kWh, a 4.59% increase compared to the same period last year.
