Reporters learned from the State Grid Shanxi Electric Power Company that since its commissioning on June 30, 2017, the ±800 kV Yanmenguan-Huai'an ultra-high voltage DC transmission project (hereinafter referred to as "Yanhuai DC") has cumulatively transmitted over 200 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to approximately 70 million tons of coal, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 196 million tons.
The ±800 kV Yanmenguan-Huai'an ultra-high voltage DC transmission line is an important channel for China's "West-to-East" and "North-to-South" power transmission, and also the largest power transmission channel for Shanxi's electricity to the south. The Yanmenguan converter station is the starting point of this transmission project, and as of February 28 this year, it has been operating safely and stably for 2434 days. Coal-fired and wind power from the northern Shanxi region are converted from AC to DC, and transmitted over 1000 kilometers of lines to Jiangsu.
Relevant officials from the State Grid Shanxi Electric Power Company introduced that the Yanhuai DC has become the main channel for "Shanxi's power transmission", accounting for about 50% of Shanxi's external power transmission load. During peak summer and winter periods and extreme weather conditions, high-load operation of the Yanhuai DC has become the norm. In 2023, summer power transmission increased by 20.5% year-on-year, and winter power transmission increased by 18.9% year-on-year, playing an important role in ensuring power supply and people's livelihood.
Behind the achievement of 200 billion kilowatt-hours, the efforts of the Yanmenguan converter station maintenance personnel are indispensable. Since its commissioning in 2017, the State Grid Shanxi Ultra-High Voltage Substation Company, responsible for the station, has strictly implemented the safety production responsibility system, accelerated the construction of digital stations, promoted the "Yanmen Ruipan" safety culture, and effectively guaranteed the growing electricity demand in East China while assisting in the consumption of clean energy such as wind power and photovoltaic power, and supporting the transformation and development of Shanxi's resource-based economy.
