At the emergency drill site for the power generation vehicle array, the State Grid Beijing Electric Power power generation vehicle fleet assembled at the drill site.

At the emergency drill site, staff are conducting power cable connection work.

At the emergency drill site in Nanxin Fang area, Tanzhesi Town, Mentougou District, staff are conducting medium-voltage power generation vehicle cable connection work.
“Please pay attention, the drill is officially starting!” On the morning of June 6th, near a residential area in Fengtai District, Beijing, personnel operating medium-voltage power generation vehicles at three locations immediately acted upon receiving the instruction, simultaneously starting emergency drills using the medium-voltage power generation vehicle in parallel island and single-machine island modes, ensuring safe and reliable power supply for residential customers during the peak summer period.
This drill was a large-capacity power generation vehicle array emergency drill jointly coordinated by multiple units and departments under the unified dispatch of the State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company. More than 50 personnel were deployed, and 10 sets of large-capacity medium-voltage power generation vehicles were used. The entire drill simulated multiple typical scenarios where, due to natural disasters, the electricity supply to a large residential area in Fengtai and a 10-kilovolt overhead line in Mentougou were affected, and State Grid Beijing Electric Power urgently dispatched medium-voltage power generation vehicles for emergency power supply. According to reports, this drill was the largest-scale power generation vehicle array emergency drill conducted in the Beijing area, featuring multiple operational scenarios and high technical difficulty, simulating the application of medium-voltage power generation vehicles in overhead and cable networks, and also conducting independent and parallel applications of single and multiple medium-voltage vehicles.
At around 10:00, at sites 1 and 2 of the medium-voltage power generation vehicle array emergency drill site in a Fengtai residential area, two teams of State Grid Beijing Electric Power personnel were conducting parallel island emergency power supply drills using arrays composed of three 1000-kilowatt diesel-powered medium-voltage power generation vehicle units. “This parallel operation is somewhat similar to connecting building blocks; it’s like turning three 1000-kilowatt medium-voltage power generation vehicles into one 3000-kilowatt medium-voltage power generation vehicle. This method is most suitable for operational scenarios where there are few power generation vehicle connection points but high capacity requirements,” explained Han Xiaokun, chief expert of electrical testing at the State Grid Corporation. According to the power demand at the work site, vehicle combinations can be selected to form power generation vehicle arrays of different capacities for large-capacity emergency power supply operations in cases of natural disasters, external damage, etc.
Meanwhile, next to a 10-kilovolt overhead line in Mentougou Tanzhesi Town, another team of personnel was conducting a single-machine island emergency drill using one 3000-kilowatt medium-voltage power generation vehicle. Unlike the connection of the medium-voltage power generation vehicle to the cable network at site 3 in the Fengtai residential area, here the connection is to the overhead network, with significant differences in the connector type and connection method. “By connecting the output cable of the medium-voltage power generation vehicle using live-line work, emergency power supply can be carried out more safely and quickly,” said Wang Yuepeng, chief expert of uninterrupted power supply operations for distribution networks at the State Grid Corporation.
According to Xin Feng, deputy director of the equipment department of State Grid Beijing Electric Power, this large-capacity power generation vehicle emergency drill was a practical test of the capital's response capabilities to sudden events related to people's livelihood, and will further enhance the emergency power supply guarantee capabilities of State Grid Beijing Electric Power for flood prevention and summer power supply.
It is understood that currently, State Grid Beijing Electric Power can use medium-voltage power generation vehicles in three working modes to form 11 different capacity parallel arrays to perform emergency power supply, peak load shaving, and comprehensive maintenance tasks.
It is reported that since 2020, with the advancement of technology and equipment and changes in business needs, State Grid Beijing Electric Power has begun to equip itself with large-capacity medium-voltage power generation vehicles, and currently has 10 sets of medium-voltage power generation vehicles, with a total capacity of 15,200 kilowatts.
Given the sudden and random nature of emergency rescue tasks, State Grid Beijing Electric Power has established a dedicated emergency rescue team that carries out uninterrupted shift work 24 hours a day to ensure rapid response capabilities in emergencies. Relying on a precise meteorological forecast and early warning system, comprehensive analysis is conducted based on various factors so that before extreme weather arrives, power generation vehicles and other equipment can be deployed and stationed nearby in advance, ensuring efficient and rapid emergency power supply operations.
In recent years, State Grid Beijing Electric Power has strengthened technological innovation, and through the independent development of a power generation vehicle management platform and vehicle-mounted gateway devices, has significantly improved the efficiency of power generation vehicle resource utilization and safety control levels. State Grid Beijing Electric Power has completed the installation of vehicle-mounted gateways on all its own power generation vehicles and some commonly used social resource power generation vehicles. It is expected that full coverage of commonly used social resource power generation vehicles will be achieved this year.
