Gansu Province sends over 52 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the national grid every year.

The State Council Information Office held a series of press conferences on the theme of "Promoting High-Quality Development" on June 13. Reporters learned from the conference that Gansu Province's annual power transmission to other provinces exceeds 52 billion kilowatt-hours, nearly half of which is new energy. By the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Gansu's total installed capacity of new energy will exceed 130 million kilowatts, equivalent to six Three Gorges Dams.

Gansu is a province rich in wind and solar resources, ranking among the top in the country in the development of solar and wind energy technologies. Data shows that currently, the total installed capacity of new energy in Gansu Province exceeds 56 million kilowatts, accounting for over 60% of the total installed power generation capacity, second in the country. The area of power transmission from Gansu has expanded to 25 provinces, with an annual transmission exceeding 52 billion kilowatt-hours, nearly half of which is new energy.

"New energy is both an advantage and a characteristic of Gansu." This is how Ren Zhenhe, deputy secretary of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the CPC and governor of Gansu Province, commented at the press conference.

At the press conference, Cheng Xiaobo, member of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial Committee of the CPC and executive vice governor of Gansu Province, said that Gansu will strive to build a nationally important base for new energy and new energy equipment manufacturing. For example, Gansu will expand the scale of new energy construction, focusing on the construction of large bases in desert, Gobi, and barren land areas, and accelerate the advancement of various wind and solar power projects. By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, that is, the end of 2025, the total installed capacity of new energy in the province is expected to exceed 80 million kilowatts; by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the total installed capacity of new energy in the province will exceed 130 million kilowatts, equivalent to six Three Gorges Dams.

To ensure the effective transmission of new energy electricity, Gansu will accelerate the construction of transmission channels. Cheng Xiaobo said that the Jiuhu ultra-high voltage direct current project that has been completed, the Longdian-to-Shandong project under construction, and the Longdian-to-Zhejiang and Longdian-to-Sichuan projects that are about to start construction will together constitute important channels for the transmission of new energy electricity from Gansu. It is expected that these four channels will all be put into operation by the middle of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, at which time Gansu will be able to transmit at least 160 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to various parts of the country annually, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of Gansu Province.
